Preserving Pomona's History
Pomona Heritage was formed in 1984 by a thriving group of preservationists to help preserve the historic neighborhoods of Pomona. With some of the finest historic homes in the Inland Valley, the city of Pomona now includes the historic districts of Lincoln Park, Wilton Heights, and Hacienda Park, comprising more than 1,000 homes. Pomona Heritage’s community outreach consists of our key educational programs: the Restoration Workshop, our Grant Program to augment home restoration, and our annual Home Tour to highlight the diversity of our city’s architecture.
Historic Districts
Lincoln Park is the oldest of our districts stretching from Garey Avenue in the west to Towne Avenue in the east, and from McKinley in the north to Holt Avenue in the south. A city, state, and National Register Historic District, it contains many fine homes built in the 1890’s to the 1940’s. With the circular Lincoln Park at its center, the tree-lined streets invite the residents to walk and talk with their neighbors.
Wilton Heights extends from Garey Avenue in the east to White Avenue in the west, and from Orange Grove in the north to Holt Avenue in the south. Filled with many charming bungalows with deep set lawns, this district includes Spanish colonials and large Craftsman houses and its perimeters are marked by large lighted stone columns, which are the subject of many period postcards.
Hacienda Park has the most unique mix of architectural styles of all the districts. Within 100 yards of each other are two Adobes dating from the 1850s and a pristine Mid-Century Modern built in 1962, accenting the breadth of historic architecture in the city. This district reaches from Garey Avenue in the east and White Avenue in the west and is bordered by Orange Grove on the south to McKinley on the north.
